A Journalist, Editor, Author, Publisher and a Media Consultant, Kul Bhushan has worked at senior levels in different countries and continents for over 40 years with international and multi-national organizations.
Journalist
Starting to write for newspapers in Kenya in 1950s, he passed with honours a course in Advanced Journalism at the Nairobi University conducted by the International Press Institute in 1966.
In 1967, he joined The Nation Newspapers as a Senior Journalist and Education Editor. He was appointed as a Sub Editor in the editing department in 1974 and as the first Business Editor in Kenya in 1976. He resigned to join another leading newspaper, ‘The Standard’ as the Economics Editor in 1980. In 1982, he was invited to the World Bank/IMF headquarters to interview its directors and its then President, Tom Clausen. He was honoured with the Journalist of the Year Award by the Kenyan President Moi in 1986. He resigned from The Standard in 1988, after working as a full time editor for 22 years.
Foreign Correspondent
During this period, he also worked as the East African Correspondent for AIR, PTI and UNI for almost 15 years in the 1970s and 1980s in addition to global news agencies such as AFP.
Author
He has written 24 books. He created the Kenya Factbook that ran into 16 editions to from 1973 to 2000 to become the authoritative business and economic reference book used by CEOs, diplomats and international agencies. He authored a pictorial biography of the Aga Khan – ‘Smiling Safari’ - that ran into three editions.
In 2005, he wrote HOW TO DEAL WITH VAT with a Foreword by the Finance Minister Chidambaram published by Pearson that became a bestseller. A year later, he authored HOW TO WORK WITH VAT also published by Pearson.
Publisher
He established his publishing company, Newspread International, in Nairobi in 1970 to publish 16 editions of the Kenya Factbook, two books on VAT, dozens of newsletters for major corporations, international organisations and NGOs until 2000. In 1988, he established Newstech Publishing Inc in New Delhi

As a member of the International Press Institute, the global body of Editors and Publishers, he represented this organization in Africa for seven years and edited their Pan-African Economic Development News Service.
Media Consultant
In Kenya, he acted as the Media Consultant for a number of diplomatic missions, international agencies, two international airlines and major corporations. In 1997, he became a Media Consultant to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) at its headquarters in Vienna, Austria, for three years and later, for the UNIDO Regional office in New Delhi.
With his extensive travels to over 50 countries, his experience with a UN organisation, multi-lateral organisations and multi-national corporations; and most aspects of the media, he brings a global and positive perspective based on Osho’s insights.
